What does a job interview look like?

Companies may use different styles of interview depending on their internal processes, and the job they're hiring for.
We recommend speaking with your recruiter contact beforehand, to get an idea of what to expect. Here are some of the most common formats that interviews usually take:
ONLINE INTERVIEW
Online interviews are the new normal for many companies today. There are a few things to keep in mind to set yourself up for success.
- While you might not be there in person, it’s still important to dress appropriately for the interview and job role that you’ve applied for
- Make sure you find a quiet place with a stable wi-fi signal for your interview
- Check your microphone and camera are working currently ahead of time, so that you’re ready for the start of the session
IN PERSON INTERVIEW (1-on-1 or panel)
While these conversations will centre on your skills and experience, they're also a great opportunity for you to find out more about the company.
- Depending on your role, expect a mix of general, behavioural, situational and (where relevant) technical questions
- The interviewer will aim to decide whether you're a good fit for the role, and align with the company vision, values and mission
- Have a couple of questions in mind ahead of time, as you'll be asked this at the end of the interview
- Asking questions during the interview can help things to feel more conversational, and can help you learn more about the company
POWERPOINT PRESENTATION
If you need to create a PowerPoint presentation, make sure it is clear and concise.
- Write up your headlines and key points, rather than including everything word for word - this will help prevent you from being tempted to read directly from the slides
- Use things like ‘SmartArt’ in PowerPoint to help make your presentation more visual
- Add comments into the notes sections if you'd like to have prompts for your slides on hand - the notes section will only be visible to you when you use presentation mode
